Making the Most of your Registrar Year

Providing you with advice and support during your GP training

11th September 2007

N.B. For those current ST2s who might be starting their GP component in February 2008 - There will only be one GPR induction day per year in September and we won't be running the one we used to hold in March.

A whole day is spent covering what your year ahead entails. It is exclusively for ST3 trainees at the beginning of their general practice year. The day is jointly organised by your representative committees at the Deanery and the Royal College, the London GP Speciality Training Committee (LGC) and the London Faculties GP Training Committee (LFGC) respectively. The London Deanery has funded the day and it‘s free!

By the end participants will:

  • have a clear understanding of the role of the Deanery and the Royal College of GPs
  • know how to make the most of your trainer
  • overview of the nMRCGP exam, including AKT, CSA & WPBA
  • plan the GP year ahead
  • browse through all the books you need and purchase them at a discounted rate
  • find out all about the London GP Speciality Training Committee and how you can represent your speciality training programme

£3,000+ Pay Cut for New GP Registrar (ST3)

With all the press coverage on the 0% pay rise for GP and below inflation rise for most other health workers, I almost missed the worse news of all - PAY CUT for NEW GP Registrar!

From April 2007, new GP Registrar will have their supplement cut from 65% to 55%. This equates to a pay cut of at least £3,000 per annun!

New Website Address

Tony, who has done a great job looking after this blog for the VTS, is leaving us for pasture new. Thanks Tony for all your effort!

I have volunteered to try and fill his shoes. Please let me know if you would like to be involved with the upkeep of the blog or if there is anything you would like to see on the blog. For example, I have always wanted a more user friendly website address and have managed to obtain the following address for free*:

www.lewishamvts.co.nr

However, I don't like the ".co.nr" and think we can do better. Also with the introduction of the MMC, VTS is outdated now and I think the scheme is now called GP Specialist Training. Therefore, I would appreciate any suggestion for a new website address.

Quyen Nguyen

*Obtained from freedomain.co.nr but they do insist on having their icon (the fish on the right) on our page
